To understand more about how and why it is that crystals can be used for healing let’s look into what a crystal is
What Are Crystals?
Crystals are formed within the earth when minerals and gases rise to the surface and form stable patterns that when cooled set themselves together creating beautiful geometric shapes that are are the most stable and unified matter in the universe.
These crystals can remain this way for millions of years, or can grow and transform into different types of crystals, depending on conditions.
Crystals have a charge, and produce electrical pulses and act like boosters and broadcasters. Did you know quartz crystal is used in various electrical items such as watches, radios, and computers because they produce an electrical signal with an exact frequency
The reason crystals impact us and our animal companions is because we have electromagnetic fields so they can be used to balance our energy and therefore our chakras.
Crystals can also be manmade. They are claimed to possess identical qualities as genuine crystals, however. Personally, I find this hard to believe – best to “feel” this out for yourself
The word stone or gem stone is often used to describe various crystals and some ‘crystals’ are not actually stones but resins. Examples of this are amber and jet.
How do they heal?
Crystals are a vibrational healing tool that work via resonance.
Each crystal has its own unique vibrational frequency that connects with and brings out that same energy to other living beings
They are a great healing tool for our pets because they are non-invasive therefore cause no pain and work on the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels therefore providing a holistic approach to healing
Caring for your crystal:
Cleaning:
To give your crystals a sparkle you can gently scrub most of them with a new toothbrush using mild dishwashing liquid mixed with lukewarm water ensuring to rinse well. Be warned, not all crystals tolerate mild soap and water so be sure to do your research.
Cleansing:
It is important to cleanse new crystals to remove unwanted energies they would have picked up from others who have come into contact with it (e.g. store employees and shoppers, shipping handlers, previous owners)
If you are using crystals for healing it’s a good idea to cleanse them frequently. If the healing is for one animal then once a week to once a fortnight is good depending on the severity of the condition the healing is needed for. The more severe the more cleansing required. The crystal will also need to be cleansed when changing from one animal to another
Cleansing Methods
- Placing them in the Sunlight or Moonlight for a number of hours
- Smudging them with the smoke of sage or sweet grass
- Using your Intention
- Placing them in Sea Salt for a number of hours (throw away the salt afterward)
- Prayer
*** Note: Not all crystals can tolerate sea salt. Please confirm this when you purchase them.
***Amethyst may lose its colour in sunlight, so you may want to use moonlight to cleanse it instead.
Respect:
Your crystal was formed by nature over many years and has amazing energy that you will be harnessing for your pet’s (or your own) healing. Always treat our crystals with love and respect
Programming your crystal:
Providing you keep your crystals cleansed and clear they are able to store whatever “thought energy” you would like them to so you can customize, or perhaps a better way to put it is to program, your crystal with intention. Once programmed with your thoughts they can be left to work “behind the scenes” on the energy field of your pet
To program your crystal, hold it in your hands, close your eyes, and visualize (or state out loud) what it is you want the crystal to do ie the best possible outcome

How to use crystals with animals
- In and under your pet’s bed (e.g. for dogs and cats)
- In water bowls (make sure it is large enough not to be ingested)
- Elixirs used both as a topical spray or in their drinking water (refer below on how to make an elixir)
- In fish tanks
- Under feed bins
- On the side of a bird, hamster cage, or crate
- In the corner of a stall or on a stall door (where the animal will not access it)
- Wearing them yourself as jewelry around your animals
- Having them nearby in the house or barn. This is a great option and one I encourage, especially when working with sensitive animals, It’s important that they be allowed to come and go from the crystal energy and not have it forced upon them 24/7 until it can be determined that they enjoy the energy. When you know they appreciate the crystal you may attach them to collars and halters – using a pouch, a wire wrap, stones with bales, or collars with them already embedded in them.
*** Caution: Malachite contains high levels of copper and can cause serious or fatal blood poisoning, and cinnabar contains lead, so be careful how you use these.
*** Safety always comes first. Never position a crystal in a place where it may end up causing harm
How to make a crystal elixir/essence
Soak the crystal that you want to use for healing in good quality water, such as spring or purified water, and let it sit, in the water, either in the sunlight or moonlight, whichever you feel is best
Set an intention asking that the water be infused with the vibrational frequency of the crystal so that it can be used for specific healing to your pet (state or visualize what the outcome of that healing will be)
Keep the infused water refrigerated and use it within 2 days if not preserved.

As an animal energetic healer, I am able to send your pet the frequency of a crystal. This is a safe option, especially in the case of the need to use crystals that are toxic to animals
Selecting Crystals:
Firstly I want to point out that you do not need fancy, expensive crystals to bring about healing, small rough-cut pieces and tumbled stones are just as powerful.
When you choose your crystals, think about the healing you want to achieve for your pet then go for the ones you are strongly drawn to use. Hold the crystal and tune in with your inner self and see if you get a feeling as to whether or not it would be useful. Sometimes it will seem as though your choice has no logic to it, but remember you are a powerful being so trust your guidance.
I understand that it’s not always easy to distinguish between thoughts of the mind and thoughts of guidance so if you are having trouble choosing you can always go by the description of each crystal.

Conclusion:
I fell in love with crystals around the age of 18 but kinda lost touch with them after a while. My animal healing journey has led me back to them and now I understand why it is I fell in love with them so many years ago. They are such a beautiful gift given to us by nature that provide us with the ability to offer a holistic approach to the well-being of not only ourselves but to our animals companions as well - in fact I’d say even more so to our animals due to the fact they are so much more connected with the earth without limiting beliefs that hold them back from the benefits the energetic healing effects of crystals provide
